Bodybuilding.com - Fit Employee Spotlight - Erin Chancer-Smith

Tell us a little about yourself. What is your position at BB.com? How long have you worked here?

I work as a web content developer for the SuperSite and I've been with the company for a little over a year.

What was your workout/fitness/nutrition level before working at BB.com?

Before I started at Bodybuilding.com I would take dance classes to stay active but was definitely not making the best choices when it came to nutrition, i.e. a lot of fast food and snacking. I've learned a great deal from the website and my fellow employees and have completely changed my diet and began to go to the gym more regularly. I've lost over 20 lbs since September of 2010 but I definitely feel like I'm just getting started.

Birds of a feather! These two fit employees flock together.

What is it like working at Bodybuilding.com? Does it create a helpful fitness environment?

I believe that we definitely aspire to live the lifestyle that we represent in many ways. From employee sports programs to healthy luncheons we are inundated with the company's mission statement and it's hard not to want to absorb that.

How does the Bodybuilding.com environment influence your health, fitness and appearance goals?

As part of my job I spend a great deal of time reading through the fitness regimens of individuals ranging from amateur to professional. Seeing how hard they've worked on themselves motivates me to try and do the same. I also have come to understand the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and try to share that with my family and friends.

What are your co-workers like?

They're a fun group of highly motivated people. I look forward to coming in to work every day. We all hold each other accountable when it comes to fitness and are very supportive of each other's goals.

Not just co-workers, but a support group and friends.

Did someone from Bodybuilding.com inspire you to reach your goals?

All of my team members have helped to coach and inspire me in some way. I'm grateful for all of the advice I've gotten from them.

Have you inspired others with your new look and attitude?

I've had a few friends tell me that I motivate them to work out and to live a healthier lifestyle. I even have a friend in Scotland that likes to dedicate her workouts to me. (Hi, Michelle!) That, in turn, helps me to keep going so that I don't let them down.

What is your favorite feature on the Bodybuilding.com website?

I may be a little biased, but I look to the SuperSite when I want to find a new workout routine or if I'm researching a supplement I'd like to try. I also love BodySpace because it's a great way to keep an eye on my progress and goals, confer with my coworkers, and cyberstalk our fitness models...just kidding.

How does Bodybuilding.com help to motivate/support you?

There's always something going on, whether it be a sponsored fitness event or a hike with coworkers. This year's employee transformation competition was a huge contributor to me breaking out of my shell and working towards a goal. Also, we receive an abundance of emails from customers who love the site and credit us with helping to change their lives. It inspires me to keep doing what I do.

Does practicing the bodybuilding lifestyle improve the productivity of Bodybuilding.com? If so, how?

Practicing the lifestyle improves our productivity in web content because we have a frame of reference for the articles that we put out. I didn't know a lot about the fitness world before I came here but now I feel that I can hold my own at the gym and not be intimidated. Well...I'm still a little intimidated.

Newsflash: Erin is now a legit hard-body.

What are your future goals? Do you think working for Bodybuilding.com will help you reach them?

Down the road I would love to contribute to the supersite as a writer. That's definitely a long term goal within the company. As for fitness, I've toyed with the idea of competing someday but I know that I have a lot of work ahead of me in order to make that happen. I'll just have to wait and see what the future holds.
